In Algebra 1, we follow a course of study that is based on the Common Core State Standards. This set of national standards in mathematics emphasizes a deep level of rigor and understanding.

The focal points include quantities, expressions, equations, graphs, functions (linear, exponential, quadratic), exponents, radicals, and polynomials. Also incorporated in Algebra 1 are elements of geometry, statistics, and probability. The Common Core State Standards are intended to better equip students with the skills necessary to become productive citizens of the 21st century. The curriculum is drawn primarily from Big Ideas Math: Algebra 1, authored by Dr. Ron Larson and Dr. Laurie Boswell. This textbook is fully aligned with the Common Core State Standards.

Students who take and pass Algebra 1 in 8th grade will be awarded one (1) high school credit. This course is required for high school graduation.
