In Math 7, we follow a course of study that is based on the Common Core State Standards. This set of national standards in mathematics emphasizes a deep level of rigor and understanding.

The focal points of Math 7 include ratios, proportional relationships, rational numbers, simplifying expressions, solving equations, area, surface area, volume, statistics, and probability. These standards are intended to better equip students with the skills necessary to become productive citizens of the 21st century. The curriculum is drawn primarily from Big Ideas Math: Modeling Real Life, authored by Dr. Ron Larson and Dr. Laurie Boswell. This textbook is fully aligned with the Common Core State Standards and was completely updated in 2019.

Students who excel in Math 7 may become eligible to enroll in Algebra 1 as 8th graders, at the discretion of the teacher. Final determination will take into account assessment scores (NWEA, M-STEP, etc.), as well as grades and work habits. High school math credit is awarded to 8th graders who take and pass Algebra 1.

To preview this week's agenda, please check the weekly lesson plans. For further details regarding rules, procedures, and expectations, please read the class syllabus. To see an overview of the content and pacing of this class, please refer to the curriculum map.
